Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character. The novel goes through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at Gateshead, where she is emotionally and physically abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at Lowood School, where she acquires friends and role models but also suffers privations and oppression; her time as the governess of Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; her time with the Rivers family, during which her earnest but cold clergyman cousin, St John Rivers, proposes to her; and the finale with her reunion with, and marriage to, her beloved Rochester.
Jane Eyre is divided into 38 chapters and most editions are at least 400 pages long. The original publication was in three volumes, comprising chapters 1 to 15, 16 to 26, and 27 to 38; this was a common publishing format during the 19th century

Plot of the book :)

The novel tells the story of a young governess, who fascinates and then marries her master. Jane is the heroine of the novel: she is unaware of the subtle arts of seduction, but is animated by a unwavering volition. Jane,  in fact, is an orphan and was entrusted to her uncle. When he dies Jane grows with her aunt and her cousins. She spends an unhappy childhood and when she is five years old she moves to college, where she remains for eight years. Later on Jane, driven by the desire to know the world, moves into the residence of Mr. Rochester where she becomes the governess of Adele, Mr Rochester's adopted daughter. During her stay in the house, she falls in love with her master, Mr. Rochester. One day Jane discovers that in the attic of the castle Mr Rochester's mad wife Bertha is hidden. Jane decides to run away and two days later she meets a shepherd, Mr Drivers who offers hospitality and falls in love with her. When Mr. Drivers proposes to move to India, Jane realizes that she loves Rochester and goes back to the residence. On her return, she discovers that a fire broke out in which Mr. Rochester lost his right hand and eyesight. The book ends when Jane and Rochester happily reunited .
